Ten days after the flood, soldiers found a man in a long tunnel in the mountains of Nepal. His name is Lu Haitao. The tunnel is 225 metres long. It is part of a power station on a river. The army said Lu Haitao had no injuries. He was cold, but he was okay. A film from the army showed doctors helping him inside a helicopter.
Three days before, rescuers found two men in another tunnel. They heard the men’s voices first. The two men are Sanjay Shah, 30 years old, and Kabir Maharjan, 45 years old. They work with machines. One man was covered in mud. A rescuer carried him out on his shoulder. Both men went to a hospital in Kathmandu by helicopter.
On 26 August, ice, rock and mud came down the mountains. Water and mud killed many people. At least 1,398 people are dead. More than 5,500 people are missing.
Rescuers now look at 12 power stations. About 900 workers are missing there. Rescuers think many people are still in the tunnels. There is air in some tunnels, so people can live. Teams from India, China, South Korea and the United States help.
On Monday, Nepal put its flags down for the dead people. Families came to Kathmandu. They want the rescuers to work faster. Reena’s brother is missing. She said they have a lot of hope, but they want to see a result.
In Hong Kong, hundreds of people from Nepal came to a hall on Monday. They lit candles. They put flowers on the floor.
